The Burnham Group of Villages are a Day Out in Themselves

They are like sisters, clustered together in this picturesque part of north Norfolk. But the villages known as the Burnhams have their own individuality too. Probably the best known is Burnham Market, a delightful village with independent shops, galleries and delicatessens along with pubs and restaurants. It is popular with visitors from London and you don’t have to look to far to see a famous face or two close by, enjoying a weekend break Norfolk with friends of family. But there is also Burnham Overy, Burnham Overy Staithe, Burnham Norton, Burnham Thorpe and Burnham Deepdale.

They are a stunning collection of villages with a number of Norfolk Luxury Hotels nearby, the coast is not too far away, and there are a number of stately homes and other pleasant market towns such as Holt within a short drive. But these villages are well worth exploring on their own. Burnham Thorpe is also very well know because this was where Horatio Nelson was born on September 29, 1758, as his father was the pastor of the village church at the time. There are pleasant walks around the village and a pub so old that it was the same inn used by Vice Admiral Nelson when he returned to Norfolk. With a good selection of North Norfolk Hotels in the area, it is worth touring the other villages in the Burnhams. They exude charm and character with their brick and flint homes, intriguing churches and their beautiful rural settings.

You can quite easily spend a day touring them, absorbing the atmosphere and enjoy-ing a walk in the countryside before returning to your North Norfolk Hotel. Good food and drink is never far away, whether you are looking to dine out or fancy putting together a picnic from one of the local shops. The quality is exceptional and this area of north Norfolk has some of the best pubs and restaurants in the whole of East Anglia region with a growing number of them owned by local chefs who are fast becoming celebrities in their own right having published books and even hosted or starred in cookery programmes on TV. When in north Norfolk, sample the countryside and savour the taste of the local cui-sine.
