Where To Find Our Feathered Friends

If you're keen on birds, you'll find a weekend break Norfolk makes the perfect getaway. The area has plenty of places aimed at birdwatchers, whether you just like to spot different species as you stroll around, or whether you're a professional twitcher keen on camping at a bird hide with all the kit.

For birdwatchers staying in North Norfolk Hotels, Pensthorpe near Fakenham is a must-see spot. This beautiful place is dedicated to our feathered friends and over the past few years has also been the base for the BBC Springwatch programme, hosted by Chris Packham and co. Set in 50-acres of lovely gardens, Pensthorpe offers all sorts of tranquil walks as well as numerous bird hides and is the perfect place for getting close to nature.

This wildlife and conservation centre, which was voted Norfolk's Best Visitor Attraction last year, is also a breeding site for all sorts of species, from the Little Ringed Plover and Sandmartin to the Marsh Harrier. No doubt Chris Packham and his team stayed in one of the Norfolk luxury hotels but there are also plenty of other places in this area in which to set up camp, from reasonably-priced B&Bs to pubs with rooms. And there's enough on offer to while away a few days here, as Pensthorpe also attracts Avocets, Redshank, Greenshank, Lapwings and Bittern as well as all sorts of warbler species.

Like many other wildlife parks and zoos in the area, Pensthorpe encourages its visitors to get involved and you can adopt many of the birds, which is something that children often like to do, and if you are staying with your family in one of the Hotels in North Norfolk, there are also plenty of other attractions in the area, from the lovely seaside towns of Wells and Cromer to the Dinosaur Park near Hockering. So if you fancy an interesting day out, or a long weekend break, put your binoculars in your bag and head over to Pensthorpe in Fakenham.
