The beautiful natural landscape of North Norfolk has proved to be a real have for wildlife. The coastline and areas inland teem with an array of birds and it's not unusual for an army of twitchers - or bird watchers - to descend on a particular area at short notice because a rare species has been spotted in the vicinity or one that is not normally seen in the United Kingdom.
Many North Norfolk Hotels are packed with people who come to the area specifically to view and study the local wildlife. Naturalists find the area popular with the opportunity of focussing their binoculars on the amazing wildlife that can be seen from the Norfolk shoreline and that often is the basis for a well deserved weekend break in Norfolk.
One of the things making the area so appealing is the variety to terrain from wetlands through to beaches, and harbours and quays. There are several nature reserves run by organisations such as the RSPB where it is possible to go and view wildlife at close quarters. There are organisations that can offer guided tours of the area that focus specifically on wildlife interests but they also take in much of the area's other attractions too such as stopping in some of the market towns such as Holt for a coffee or pausing for a fish and chip lunch in one of the coastal resorts.
For those coming to the area independently, most Hotels in North Norfolk are well-equipped to offer advice on some of the more interesting areas for wildlife activity. That may be in the form of stocking a few leaflets, or with expert first hand knowledge of the areas. If staying in one of these hotels, it wouldn't be difficult to organise a tailor-made tour to areas that take in some of the area's best known wildlife attractions.
The Norfolk Broads is a popular spot because of its unique terrain. You may even see, or at least hear the Bittern with its distinctive 'boom' call, if you have the children with you, take them out on a boat trip. It's a fantastic experience to see the seals sunning themselves on the sandbanks off the Norfolk coast.
